Today’s Heritage House building started to be a home for the first coniferous etheric oil distillery in Slovenia. In 1894 the steam dart through caldrons and pipes and scent of fir’s oil filled the air for the first time. Villagers would be collecting cones and branches, masters would be developing destilation techniques. Both created remarkable technical heritage in the middle of Inner-Carniola forests. Pines, juniperus, spruces and in particular indigenous and most valuable firs oils were as valuable as liquid gold for locals. Even young lads would be climbing up the trees, risking their lives at jumping after cones from one peak onto another. At Heritage House we are reestablishing a distillery process within the development of educational centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2014-16.
